I also was and still am a fan of Doctor Who. I've watched the 2013 Proms performance on YouTube many times. People can feel a strong sense of belonging to these niche areas of fandom. There are some great thoughts your article and I'll continue pondering it this week. Thanks for sharing!

Beautifully held dialectics of all kinds in this piece. Thanks for letting something be both nourishing and complicated in human hands. As a therapist, I don’t think a day goes by that I don’t engage in someone’s fandom (or my own!). The rich metaphors help us process our own lives, emotions, and thoughts and allow us ways to say something our unconscious longs to speak. Our family fandoms include Star Wars, followed closely by Marvel, Star Trek, and Tolkien, with one major Warhammer follower. We have had years of lively and intimate conversation around both faith and the nerdy stories that speak to us. Again, thanks for the great read this morning validating the power of story. 👏🙌🖖🫶
